Church

Selah Mountain is not your typical church. We are a family of believers in Jesus Christ who desire to honor God by applying His wisdom through Biblical instruction in all areas of life and ministry. We believe that this is best accomplished by inspiring and encouraging each other to become more like Jesus in our relationships, not intimidating each other to adopt some legalistic form of religion that causes division. Our focus is not how many seats we can fill on Sunday, but instead focusing on how many lives we can positively impact throughout the whole week.

While we are officially named Selah Mountain Baptist Church, Biblically speaking, we are an independent, free-standing, disciple-teaching, local Bible church that is not part of any organized denomination or association. We strive to see the world, our purpose, and our mission through the lens of a Biblical world view. This means we are firm believers in letting the Bible explain itself (2 Peter 1:19-21). In doing so, we can learn the fundamentals of what The Bible really teaches, not what some church leader or cultural icon privately interprets it to teach. We accomplish this by preaching and teaching from all parts of the Bible (KJV) with a focus on helping everyone to become Biblically literate. In other words, we preach and teach it all and let God sort it out.

Finally, we are different in our approach to how we conduct our church services. We offer local services, ministry outreach, and events here in Albuquerque, New Mexico. However, we are undertaking an effort to expand our entire ministry online. This effort was inspired by Revelation 3:7-11 as follows:

And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth; I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name. Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee. Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown. Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.

We believe that these verses not only represent the missionary period of New Testament church history, but also speaks of a church, or a group of believers, with the following characteristics:

  1. This church has access to the keys available that can enter doors that have opened that cannot be shut by man. We believe that the Internet has become a door to the most restricted areas of the world where the vast majority of people have no access to the Word of God or sound Biblical teaching.
  2. This church has little strength, but has kept God's Word and continues to proclaim the name of the Lord in matters of eternity and daily living. We believe that a small number of technology missionaries in a local church who love God and are gifted with teaching and preaching can use advanced technologies to reach people that have been cut off from traditional means of hearing the Word of God.
  3. This church has the ability to share God's Word in a way that takes the simplicity of God's truth and confounds the wisdom of the world, while providing the way of salvation, which results in souls saved and lives changed. We believe that delivering the Word of God directly and personally to each and every person will prick the hearts of some and be a thorn in the side of others.
  4. This church will glorify the name of God through its faithfulness, which will result in it being a pillar in the body of Christ alongside others. We believe that this church will be pleasing to God and have great influence that will last for eternity.

We ask that you pray for our church as we build the what is needed to minister to those who have been unreached by traditional methods. We ask that you pray for the funding and technology missionaries needed to build the ministry under the prayerful leading of the Holy Spirit. Finally, we ask that you pray for those that we reach, that their hearts be receptive to the truth. Praise God for His faithfulness.

We Believe

What is Selah Mountain?

Selah is a term that can be found mostly in the Psalms and a few other places in the Bible. The name Selah first shows up as a reference in 2 Kings 14:7 to the high mountain fortress capital city of Edom known as Selah. The name means rock, fortress, or stronghold. The city was captured and its name was changed to Joktheel, meaning veneration of God, by Judah's King Amaziah in acknowledgment of God's help in taking the fortress.

Selah is most commonly used in the Psalms. It is a term that means to pause or suspend, as in to stop doing something. Since the Psalms were actually songs, it is referred to as a place where there is a pause in the music for a moment to think about the magnitude of what was sung.

With these concepts in mind, Selah Mountain is a reference to stopping for a moment and thinking upon the magnitude of the rock of our salvation, Jesus Christ. When we read the Scriptures and take time to pause and meditate upon Jesus as our unshakable rock, He guards our hearts and minds and gives us peace beyond all understanding

For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

1 Corinthians 1:18
