The purpose of this page is to provide Biblical counseling information, course work, and resources to help with the struggles of life from a purely Biblical perspective.
We live in a world that is moving so fast that we often cannot keep up. It seems like no matter what we do, we never have time for the things that really matter. We want stronger marriages, deeper friendships, and lives that are more meaningful. Meanwhile, talk show hosts, self-help books, Internet sites, friends, family, and even expensive counselors tell us they have the answers to our problems.
So, we invest the time, the effort, and the expense to try their answers only to discover that either they do not work or they work for a short while and we find ourselves right back where we started. Before long, we conclude that there are no answers for our life issues and we sink into despair.
Sadly, many people feel this way. The answers they so desperately need to solve their problems are never offered or found. This is because the answers that work have been abandoned in search for “better ways.” Unfortunately, these “better ways” have produced dismal results and the answers that work have been forgotten by nearly everyone.
The answers we are talking about come from the Bible. While many people think of the Bible as one of many “religious books,” what they do not realize is that the Bible is full of practical teaching that addresses all of life’s issues. The Bible tells us in 2 Timothy 3:16-17:
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”
Jesus spoke about this truth when he said in John 10:10, “…I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it abundantly.” (Emphasis added) By these words, Jesus spoke of the answers to life’s issues that produce real, lasting change to our lives.
Simply stated, when we take the teachings of the Bible and learn how to apply them in practical ways to life’s struggles that makes sense, we are able to overcome our issues and experience lasting peace and joy.
We have witnessed positive changes in countless lives. Marriages that were in shambles have been restored. Families in crisis have been mended. Those caught in the trap of addictive or self-defeating lifestyles have been set free. No matter what the age or issue, we have seen lives drowning in despair, rescued and later abounding in hope and happiness.
Because everyone has different needs, we have designed our Biblical counseling ministry to help you take that important first step in a new life. A life that is rich, joyous, and unlike anything the world has to offer. In consideration of this, we offer the following information.
Our Goal: Our goal in providing Christ-centered Biblical counseling resources is to help you to overcome the issues of life through the wisdom and power of Biblical counseling. Your victory over your life struggles will not only serve as a positive testimony to the name of Jesus Christ, but it will allow you to enjoy fully His love for you and the blessings He has for your life.
Biblically Based: Because the Bible provides thorough guidance and instruction for the issues of life, our counseling is based only on principles and teachings found directly in the Bible, and not those of secular psychology or psychiatry. Likewise, because the principles and teachings are found directly in the Bible, they are non-denominational in approach.
Not Professional Advice: While some of the counseling resources may be provided by individuals that work in professional fields outside this ministry, we state with all clarity that any resources provided are strictly based on Biblical teachings and are not to be considered to be the same kind of professional advice and services that they may perform when they are hired in their professional capacities. Therefore, if you have significant, legal, financial, medical, or other technical questions that are non-Biblical in nature, you should seek advice from an independent professional. We will be happy to cooperate with such advisers and help you to consider their advice in light of relevant Scriptural principles.
HOW DO I GET STARTED?
The first step in getting started is to contact us to schedule an appointment. We require that the person seeking Biblical counseling contact us so that we know he or she is committed to attending. (The only exception to this policy would be in the case of a parent or guardian calling to arrange Biblical counseling for their minor child or the person in their care.)
Before coming to your first appointment, we would like you to download and fill out the “Confidential Client Information” (CCI) and the “Consent to Christian Biblical Counseling or Discipleship” forms. Once the forms are complete scan them and email them as attachments to us at email@example.com . Click on the photos to the left to view and download the forms.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?
Your first appointment will be a pre-counseling appointment, which typically lasts about an hour and a half. During this appointment, we will review your CCI and discuss your situation, answer any questions you may have, and determine if any outside coordination may be needed. We will also explain to you what is expected in counseling, make a determination about proceeding to ongoing counseling, and set a preliminary schedule.
HOW LONG WILL THE COUNSELING LAST?
The length of counseling varies because of a number of factors. For some issues a few weeks may be all that is needed. For others, counseling may last several months. During this time, there may be assignments given that help provide information and practical advice that is specific to your situation. It is expected that the assignments would be completed between appointments, as they will be used as a basis for our discussions and learning. In any case, our goal is not to continue week after week and month after month with no end in sight. Instead, we want to help you learn how to address your issues in a Christ-centered way and teach you how to help others in the future.
HOW MUCH DOES BIBLICAL COUNSELING COST?
There is no set price for formal counseling, however due to the numerous expenses required to operate a counseling ministry we rely heavily upon the contributions of counselees and others. Therefore, we request that anyone receiving formal counseling services contributes according to their means for each visit to defray some of these costs. For those that would like to donate toward the cost to provide formal counseling to others, your gift would be most appreciated. While considering what might be an appropriate amount of donation, we have found that the average insurance co-pay for counseling in the Albuquerque area is between $50-150 per visit.
We do not submit claims to insurance companies because it would require us to use medical diagnosis codes, which are not applicable to Biblical counseling. However, some insurance carriers may reimburse clients for “alternative care” on a case-by-case basis. In such cases, we can provide documentation of the services provided if you would like to submit a claim to your insurance company. Note: we cannot guarantee that our services will meet your insurance company’s requirements for reimbursement.
Finally, we may recommend that you read a specific book or reference material as part of your counseling plan. In that case, you would be free to purchase the book or reference material on your own or purchase one from us. Other than that possibility, your only other cost would be your time and effort coming to your appointments and completing your assignments.
